Builders and tradies in Queensland have received an early Christmas present this year with an increase in work coming their way.

According to the Spring 2014 Queensland Outlook released on November 24 by the Housing Industry Association (HIA), Queensland is continuing to see growth in the residential construction sector. For air conditioner installers and residential electricians, this may mean it's time to hire a ladder or trestle and get to work!

    New home starts

The report by the HIA revealed that dwelling commencements are forecast to achieve growth for the year of 13.9 to reach 37,000 new home starts. This follows a bumper year in 2013, with 13.4 per cent growth.

"New dwelling commencements are finishing off their second consecutive year of strong growth, with more to come over the next few years. New dwelling starts in Queensland are enjoying their strongest year since 2008," said Warwick Temby, HIA's Queensland executive director.

The new year is looking just as good, with a further 8 per cent in growth forecast for 2015. Another spurt of increased activity is forecast for 2016, in which new home commencements for the year are expected to reach 41,090.

    New homes sales

If you're breaking ground with a digger from Kennards Hire in the near future, you'll be glad to know that sales of new homes are rising as well.

Data released by the HIA on November 27 show a 3 per cent rise in new homes sales across the country for October. Although Queensland did not fare too well for the month, the growth over the three months leading to October showed an increase of 1.2 per cent in the sale of newly built detached housing.

No matter your role on the construction site this year and in 2015, remember that Kennards Hire has the right tool for the job available when you need it.
