Regular maintenance for homeowners

Maintenance is an important part of being a homeowner – nipping problems in the bud before they escalate into bigger jobs.

As with most things, regular upkeep of your property will improve its lifespan, costing you less in expensive renovations.

However, while some maintenance issues are more obvious than others, others are less so.

Regularly cleaning your property is important for hygiene reasons, but it can also help you spot small problems before they escalate.

Removing dust, mould and any insect infestations is important also – termites for instance can cause devastating damage to a timber house.

Mould is both unsightly and can have negative health impacts so if you think you have a damp problem, it is important to get on top of it.

If ventilation and scrubbing doesn't get rid of the problem, you might need to investigate the source of the issue and address it before it becomes an expensive problem.

Keep a watchful eye on trees surrounding your house – this includes monitoring their roots to ensure they don't damage the foundations of your dwelling.

If tree limbs are obscuring your house, you may want to consider cutting the threatening branches. Using a cherry picker from your local Kennards Hire can help you perform the job safely and effectively.
