Planning an enjoyable break from work at your holiday home this Easter? While the kids are at the beach or playing backyard cricket, why not indulge yourself in a bit of bathroom DIY to spruce the place up a bit?

You can undertake the project in comfort, at your own pace, in the relaxing surrounds of your hermitage.

This endeavour does not have to be a costly one - some great effects can be achieved with simple items that have been found, not bought.

Interesting pieces that you pick up on the beach can be used as decorative elements - shells, smoothened glass and driftwood can add a homely touch to your bathroom.

Try sticking a selection of differently-shaped shells to door, window and mirror frames - add a dash of paint to each one to enhance the playful atmosphere.

A long, narrow piece of driftwood can make a great towel rail and a shorter piece can act as a toilet paper holder to match! Make sure to waterproof any wood pieces that you plan to have near wet areas first.

Use pieces of coloured glass to cover soil in bathroom pot plants for a subtle, sparkly effect - they can also be used to fill an empty window sill or the bottom of a vase with interesting colours.

Put them in the parts of the room that gather the most light and marvel at the rainbow effect that sunlight will create!
