If your bedroom is lacking some character it may well be time for you to bring it to life with a brand new colour!

Embark on a DIY painting project, transforming your bedroom into a place of solace with these three hot and trendy shades for the year.

    Oxblood

This rich, deep red-brown colour isn't really as bad as it may sound, instead creating a warm, welcoming presence.

Oxblood is the perfect shade for those wanting to create an elegant bedroom look, with this colour looking particularly good paired up with browns, tans and wooden accessories.

    Cobalt

This electric blue shade is reserved for those who fancy themselves as a little adventurous, with the bright hue adding a pop of colour to illuminate the whole room.

This shade may better suit a child's bedroom, as it is especially effective in achieving the nautical look.

Keep furniture and decor simple, pairing up with white dressers. Black and white stripes work especially well with cobalt too - so get your creative mind working!

    Lavender

This purple hue evokes a feeling of calm, something we would all like to feel when retiring to our beds after a long, hard day at work!

Lavender can work especially well in nurseries, and looks great in a stripe pattern with a soft lemon yellow.

For a quirkier bedroom look, pair lavender with a lime green or orange. If you want something more subdued, pair with a light grey or periwinkle colour.
