For years, health experts have been telling us about the benefits of growing our own food and while many people have jumped on the eco-friendly wagon, there are others who haven't.

While the idea of popping outside to pick a few tomatoes for your salad probably appeals to many, putting this thought into practice is another thing.

Some people may think a garden DIY project such as starting your own vegie patch will involve a lot of time and money, and then there's the added hassle of looking after your plants once they are in - not to mention the trepidation you might feel when considering what to put in the garden!

If the thought of constructing your own vegie patch is a bit daunting, why not consider some planters? They're an easy, fuss-free and efficient option that will see your vegie garden up and running in no time.

And if you're new to the gardening game, it might be a good idea to experiment with herbs to get a feel for it.

Herbs are generally more resilient than vegies and more accommodating to all weather conditions so you don't have to worry about what herb to grow in which season.

Essential herbs you may want to consider including in your garden are basil, chives, coriander, dill, fennel, mint, parsley, sage, tarragon and thyme.
