If you've got a few ratty pieces of furniture or homewares sitting in your garage, ready for the next rubbish collection - don't send them out to the dump!

You can reuse all the items you would consider trash or junk by giving them a new lease on life with some DIY painting and a head full of creative ideas.

Here are a few ways you can transform your trash into treasure!

    Suitcases

If you haven't used your faded suitcases in years and they're just gathering dust under your bed, pull them out to create a table!

Add a fresh lick of paint to your suitcases and using some heavy duty adhesive, glue three to four together (from smallest to largest) and leave to set.

Voila - You have a funky new sidetable!

    Spice rack

Got a tatty spice rack that's hanging around your home? If it's of a pretty decent size and can fit small garden pots on the shelf - then you've got a new garden DIY project on your hands!

Give the spice rack a good sanding and apply some varnish, then leave to dry.

Mount your new plant rack to the outside of your home, ensuring it's in an optimum spot to catch some sun.

The converted spice rack will also be a great place to prepare a simple mini herb garden!
