Traffic management has moved up a gear with the opening of specialist Traffic Control equipment branches in Victoria, and, more recently, South Australia and Queensland. Kennards Traffic is geared up to assist contractors and councils involved in projects affecting traffic flow, as well as traffic management companies.
The equipment range includes solar-powered variable message signs, light towers, water- filled barriers, plastic-moulded pedestrian barricades, cable humps (ramps) and multi-message road warning signs.

"We are already hiring equipment to several large traffic management companies that have a lot of their own equipment," said Kennards Traffic manager Mark Meli.
"The advantage for them is that if that if they get a large job or have a surge in the number of projects at any one time, they can call on us for extra equipment.
"This saves them outlaying capital for equipment which may lie idle during quieter periods.
"Also, if they have a breakdown of a light tower or electronic message board, or they need a road sign they don't have available, they can call us and we will have it out to them within an hour."
Mark said the other big demand for the branch's fleet of variable message signs was from the retail sector.
"Some stores have told us they have doubled their turnover on a weekend by using one of these units because they really do catch the eye," he said.
"Car yards, councils and sporting bodies are among other users."
