New role for Kennards' mini excavators

The innovative ground engineering and construction company, Retaining Specialists, regularly hires 3.5 tonne machines to help with the installation of sheet pile retaining walls.

Because jobs are spread across Australia, the company needs a hire company with branches to match and the willingness to adapt equipment.

Neal McQuade, who operates Retaining Specialists, said the system was a relatively new addition to its range of solutions for rock and soil stabilisation.

"It is a commonsense system which we have revived and improved," he said. "The head of a rock breaker attachment is coupled with a drive rod, which drives metal alloy anchors into the embankment through a hole in the sheet pile.

"Once the anchor has reached the required depth, the drive rod is extracted and the anchor is locked against the whaler.

"We have had a lot of success with this system Australia wide, and it is generating a lot of interest.

"It's important for us to work with a good hire company, and we have developed a good relationship with Kennards people wherever we have worked."
