Hired water blasters needed after floods
Kennards Hire supplied hundreds of water blasters, many of them transported from its hire centres around Australia, for the huge clean-up which followed the Queensland floods.
A thick layer of mud covered countless properties as the flood waters from the Brisbane River receded.
Concrete care and repair firm, Total Projects, hired a 4000psi water blaster to supplement its own equipment while cleaning up and rebuilding the basement and car park of the Performing Arts Centre at South Bank.
"Water was 600mm deep in the car park," said Pat Bermingham, who operates the company. "It went out the same way as it came in through the stormwater system - but left a massive amount of mud for us to remove. The first thing we did was volume wash with a fire hose, and then we used the water blasters to remove all the silt and provide a safe working environment before we began demolishing the gyprock, and rebuilding.
"Because of the power of the Kennards' machine, we were able to use it with 100 metres of pressure hose, which gave us more flexibility as we were able to leave it up top and work down below in the car park."
Another 4000psi water blaster was hired for the clean-up at Fruit Link's warehouse in the Brisbane Produce Market at Rocklea, where the water level rose 3.3 metres.
The secondary wholesaler, owned by Doug Rylance and Adam Dilworth, supplies independent supermarkets all over Queensland.
"There was 6in of slush through the markets," said Fruit Link's Rod Sciven. "Doug led a team of 40 in the clean-up. They pressure washed it three times because the mud comes out of everywhere."
Kennards' range of water blasters includes petrol-powered 4000psi and 2000psi models, an electric 1200psi machine and a 1500psi hot water unit.
