Kennards Hire expands into Northern Territory
Kennards Hire, one of Australia's oldest and most respected equipment hire businesses, has moved into the Northern Territory.
A fully Australian and family-owned company, which has been operating for 63 years, Kennards now has hire centres in Palmerston, Winnellie, Coolalinga and Alice Springs.
This follows the acquisition of Top End Hire, which Darren Gilpin and Duncan McKinstray started in 1995 and built into the Territory's biggest general equipment hire business. Duncan said several companies were keen to buy them out, but Kennards was always their preference.
"We are both family men, and we like the fact Kennards is Australian and family-owned," he said.
"They are also very much like us in the way they operate. Our focus has always been on quality and service, and bending over backwards for customers. We know from our contact with Kennards over many years they have the same approach. It will be business as usual because all of the staff have remained, the branch managers are the same and Darren and I are also staying for as long as it takes to complete a smooth transition."
"Our customers are not concerned. All they are saying is, 'congratulations'".
The move fulfills Kennards' long-held goal to be able to directly meet the needs of equipment hirers around Australia. The company now has 128 hire centres, covering every state and territory.
Kennards is committed to serving the same range of customers who used Top End Hire, from major construction and mining companies and local government bodies to smaller contractors, factories, retailers and home improvers.
All of the heavy plant will continue to be provided, and several new items, including mobile aluminium scaffold, ladders and a variety of electric trade tools, have been added.
