What are you planning on doing this weekend? It could be watching a bit of footy or taking the dog for a walk, but mostly we're avoiding thinking about Monday. One of the best cures for the weekend coming to an end is to pick up a project that makes you feel good about the way you spend your day and enhances the way you enjoy your home.
Build a bar
Putting together a deck is a great way to fill out a weekend in the summer, but with fewer daylight hours and less than pleasant weather outside, have a look at how you can expand your indoor entertainment. Building a custom bar is a great way to exercise your DIY muscle and create a feature for your home. Think about all the things that make your local a great place to go, and see if you can incorporate this into your bar.
If you like the rustic look, grab a belt sander and get to work on a piece of salvaged wood for you bar top. Match with metal stools and make sure there's a place to keep your beer or wine cool, and you're good to go.
Paint a room
Do you ever feel like your home isn't as exciting as it used to be? Well, brush up on your DIY painting skills and get at least one room looking great again. While a whole house makeover could break the bank, or take too long, working on one room at a time allows you to have a completed project in a much shorter time. It also means you can explore some creative ideas for your living areas or bedrooms that you may not otherwise have tried.
Patterns, feature walls, ombre and colour zones are all fantastic ways to showcase your creativity without turning the house upside down.
Kitchen makeover
New cabinetry is expensive, so it's no wonder you haven't gotten around to updating the look of your kitchen yet. Instead of replacing a perfectly functional kitchen, have you thought about refinishing the existing cupboard and draw faces?
It's easy enough to take them off with a cordless driver and set them up in the garage for sanding and varnishing (if they're wooden) or spray painting with an air compressor setup.
Of course, when your job's complete, there's no reason not to take the dog for a walk and watch some footy - it is Sunday after all!
