3 festive carpet stains that will require shampoo cleaning

Ah, Christmas. A time of celebration, eating, drinking and seeing your old uncle who you've not seen since, well, last Christmas. With the entire family over for a Christmas feast, your carpets are in for a very difficult time over the festive season, and it's likely that they'll need a good clean once the celebrations are over - especially if they fall victim to a particularly stubborn stain.

1. Red wine

Many of us enjoy a fine red wine red wine. A glass of Shiraz goes beautifully with almost any festive meal, but your enjoyment will be ruined should a wayward hand knock it over. When red wine splashes onto carpet (especially a white one) it's notoriously difficult to get out. That's because wine rapidly soaks into carpet fibres, and can cause permanent damage if not addressed quickly.

2. Coffee

Coffee is naturally dark and acidic, making it a problematic stain to deal with. You should employ the same tactics as you would with wine stains - plenty of cold water, dabbing, and finishing off with a good shampoo.

3. The excesses of Christmas

Just think about the sheer volume of foot traffic your carpet will have to endure at Christmas.
