You know it's summer in Australia when it seems like a major event is happening every other weekend, as people jet across the country looking for excitement. It's never been easier to capitalise on domestic tourism, so if you find yourself with excess space, here are some suggested DIY projects that can help you establish your own B&B.

    Start with a spring clean

First things first - no one is going to be interested in staying in unclean accommodation. The simplest thing you can do to entice visitors to your new B&B is to give your property a spruce up. A survey carried out by AAA Tourism found that 30 per cent of respondents stated that cleanliness is the most important factor in choosing accommodation, so trimming that overgrown lawn, patching up those faded and chipped facades, even just a simple clean of your windows can make your B&B more appealing to discerning interstate travelers.

Make sure your B&B is up to scratch

The code of conduct from Hosted Accommodation Australia, the B&B and guesthouse industry peak body, states that a safe and risk-free environment must be provided for your guests. There are plenty of small issues that can slip under your radar in those little-used areas of your home most suitable for converting into a B&B, so carry out a careful audit of your space and talk to your local Kennards expert for advice on how to ensure everything is safe and above board.

Go big with a new bathroom

One thing that could separate your B&B from the competition is an attached ensuite bathroom, so guests don't have to impose themselves on your own space. It's a big job, but Kennards has all the equipment you need to add that crucial extension, right from concrete mixers for a brand new floor to tile cutters for adding those precise finishing touches.

The onslaught of summer events is fast approaching, but there's still time to talk to your local Kennards Hire Centre representative to get the equipment and advice you need today.
