Careful precision with a trailer-mounted vacuum excavator

Melbourne Irrigation hired out a trailer-mounted, non-destructive vacuum excavator which helped with installing a new sprinkler system in Melbourne's King Domain Gardens without damaging tree roots and plants.

Vacuum excavators use high-pressure water blasting to help break up soil before using a high vacuum system to extract it from the excavation area.

These units allow for small, deep, precision controlled holes to be dug quickly to uncover buried utilities - without the risks that are posed by machinery such as backhoes and excavators.

"It was exactly what we needed. A couple of other councils came to have a look, and were also impressed," said Melbourne Irrigation director Ben Cameron.

Following great feedback from customers, Kennards added more units. There is a 946 litre tank for spoil and 378 litre water tank with attached hose and wand for jet blasting.
