Clean-up begins in storm-stricken Tasmania

Tasmanian tradesmen are likely to be in-demand over the coming weeks as clean-up commences after wild storms lashed the state recently. 

Recovery efforts are underway across the state to repair damage caused by strong wind gusts which brought down power lines and trees.

The severe weather also grounded planes at Hobart airport, with other flights diverted back to Melbourne.

According to the ABC, fallen power lines caused at least 18 power pole or vegetation fires to fan across regions.

The storm also caused 9,000 households to lose power, with crews struggling to restore electricity to the grid amid continuing winds.

"All available crews are working very hard. They have been hampered by strong winds and their safety is the number one priority for us," Aurora Energy's Lorri Clarke said.

With a number of trees down and roof damage in storm-ravaged regions, tradies are likely to be called upon to help with the clean-up over the coming weeks.
