Kennards For Kids shows support for Sydney's homeless

The majority of Australians are fortunate enough to have a roof over their head every night, three meals a day, regular employment and access to education - but sadly there are thousands around the nation that go without.

Many disadvantaged and marginalised people country-wide rely on the help and services of charities like The Exodus Foundation to help them live a normal life with the same opportunities as others.

This spring Kennards Hire is throwing its support behind The Exodus Foundation and its commendable work in Australian communities through its annual Kennards For Kids campaign.

Kennards is a family owned enterprise dedicated to helping disadvantaged members of society, by supporting organisations that devote themselves to improving the lives of young Australians.

The Exodus Foundation focuses on the emotional and spiritual needs of disadvantaged and marginalised individuals - empowering young Australians through educational programs.

The religious organisation provides spiritual enlightenment through its ministry, which is proud to be known as a congregation for those living on the fringe of society.

Different life events can contribute to a person's situation, and often because of poor social standing and a feeling of dispossession, some individuals believe a "normal church" will not welcome them.
The foundation's ministry offers a place for the disadvantaged - equipping people with the educational and emotional ability to protect themselves against potential future homelessness and unemployment.

Every day The Exodus Foundation lends a helping hand to singles, socially isolated individuals, children and struggling families through its ministry and vital services.

Just under 40 per cent of the organisation's clients are homeless - whether they live between boarding houses, hostel accommodation, the streets, squats and crisis shelters.

The Exodus Foundation's community welfare services division provides more than 300 disadvantaged people with hot meals each day at its Loaves & Fishes Restaurant.

From first opening its doors in 1989, the restaurant now employs a number of full time staff to help give Sydneysiders nutritious meals - also catering for various religious communities including Indian, Jewish, Buddhist and Muslim.

"When Exodus began providing a simple Monday night dinner to those in need over 20 years ago, we had no idea it would become such an important service for Sydney's needy," Reverend Bill Crews said.

The foundation also provides a night food van that visits Kings Cross to deliver an evening meal to more than 200 homeless people in the area.

Disadvantaged people can also receive healthcare and wellbeing services from the organisation, helping individuals meet their basic needs, as well as providing counselling and psychotherapy services.
