If you're thinking about heading outside for some garden DIY this weekend, then you might consider building a raised veggie patch.
It's a great project to tackle for that feel-good factor, but growing your own veggies can also save you time and money when you don't have to head to the supermarket so often! Since raised veggie beds also warm up a little more quickly than ground level ones, you'll find that seeds will be likely to germinate earlier in the season.
One of the first things to do is decide the size of the patch you want to build. For most people, there won't be much of a choice because of space constraints, but a smaller well-maintained garden is better than a larger neglected one anyway.
Find a nice sunny spot and create four shallow walls of around 15cm - 20cm in height of wood, brick or metal around an area that you can access without stepping in it (which will harm those veggies!).
Get down to your garden centre for mulch and fertiliser to fill the bed - and don't forget to pick up some seeds while you're there!
