Kennards Lift and Shift has established a strong reputation as one of the leading suppliers of hired chain blocks for small projects, such as engine and machinery lifting.

DIY enthusiasts all over Australia have turned to such equipment for help when performing auto repairs or building cars up from scratch, or when heavy machinery in a factory needs maintenance.

These chain blocks range from a half tonne to 5 tonnes, making them ideal for smaller projects.

But what about lifting needs that require more than just chain blocks?

Kennards Lift and Shift has everything a company would need to ensure the heavy lifting is performed safely and effectively.

The McArthur River Mine is a perfect example of how hiring from Kennards Lift and Shift can get a project done faster and more affordably. The mine, which extracts from one of the largest zinc and copper reserves in the world, needed to use 30 tonne chain blocks with the 350 tonne crane that was onsite to put together a part of the mill.

    Precision is key

This lift was no ordinary engine-lifting job. The group needed to install a ball mill that had arrived onsite in four different 55-tonne sections. Until they had a chain to lift them in place, the pieces sat idle.

Making matters even more difficult, each piece had to be gently laid down at a 45 degree angle, which is where Kennards' 30 tonne chain blocks really came in handy.

"Achieving such precise placement is extremely difficult when using straight chains," said John Grimmond, crane supervisor on the project.

"You can only shorten the length by a minimum of one link, which is approximately 90mm. The 30 tonne chain blocks from Kennards Lift and Shift give you a lot more flexibility. You can make adjustments in smaller, more controlled increments. They’re exceptionally good for that purpose."

This is a clear example of the versatility that Kennards Lift and Shift can provide.

Still, a large portion of the equipment for hire caters to smaller projects.

Portable engine stands are hand operated and can hold any automotive engine while it's being repaired or rebuilt, and are easily turned, giving the worker access to the block from all angles.
