Mild weekend weather means gardening opportunities

Wet weather across much of New South Wales - including the heaviest rainfall seen in years in some parts of the state - is a clear sign that summer is well and truly over.

The changing seasons mean that it might also be time to give your garden a little bit of TLC - and with a bit of sunshine in the forecast and relatively mild conditions expected in the wake of the storms, now could be a good opportunity to get winter preparations underway.

If you are keen to carry out DIY garden or landscaping jobs - fitting raised garden beds, for example - the milder weekend weather could represent the perfect opportunity to get some work done. Hiring wheelbarrows and wood chippers for big one-off jobs can be a great way to get your garden ready for winter - and saves you the hassle and expense of purchasing and storing this type of equipment all year round.

One gardening expert has asserted that autumn is one of the best times of year to get major work done outdoors.

Speaking to The Mercury, Tino Carnevale - who is currently in Tasmania filming episodes of Gardening Australia and Better Homes and Gardens - explained that milder conditions that come with the change in seasons mean that gardeners can be more productive.

"Autumn is the perfect time to get your garden in order coming into next winter - the more work you do in autumn, the better off you are," he said.
