Wild weather rampaged across parts of the country yesterday (August 23), lashing Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne with gale force winds, thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

The three storms, in quick succession of one another, caused widespread destruction in areas, including fallen trees, power lines and flooding.

Strong winds besieged Sydney from noon yesterday, with the storm brewing to a lightning display by early evening.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning at 1615 for the metropolitan area, Illawarra, Snowy Mountains, Hunter Valley, South Coast, Mid North Coast and Central Tablelands.

In Adelaide, hundreds of home were left without power after winds of up to 90 km/h whipped the city, pulling trees down and leaving a trail of destruction in its path.
The mid-afternoon storm caused a number of car accidents, including a five car pile-up on the Port River Expressway.

And in Melbourne, a late afternoon downpour turned into a hail and thunderstorm, accompanied with wild winds.

With clean-up beginning today (August 24), tradesmen are likely to be in demand this weekend, assisting with property repairs in the capital cities.

Strong winds coupled with heavy rainfall are likely to put pressure on tradies to help in the removal of fallen trees and branches.

Working at heights requires specialised equipment to carry out the job efficiently - to remove tree limbs, hiring a cherry picker from your local Kennards Store can help workers perform the job efficiently and safely.
