Nothing beats using herbs straight out of the garden to flavour and spice up your delicious home cooked meals and now is the perfect time to start planting your spring herbs!

Whether you want to expand your existing herb garden to incorporate some of this season's freshest flavours or embark on a garden DIY project for the first time, anyone can try their luck with this planting task.

The best thing about herbs is that they don't require a lot of room so you can grow them in the backyard, in planters on your veranda, or even in a pot on your window sill.

The following are some of the top herbs to grow this spring.

    Chives
This member of the onion family is a delicious accompaniment to a number of dishes. Available in onion and garlic flavoured varieties; chives are delicious in cream based sauces, on top of baked potatoes, as well as in a fresh garden salad.

    Chervil
This is a very mild flavoured spring herb that is used mainly for garnishes, but is also delicious with eggs and fish.

    Dill
This feathery like herb is the perfect companion with seafood - especially salmon - and cheese dishes.

    Parsley
Parsley is one of the most widely used herbs and can be added to a number of dishes. Available in several varieties, flat-leaf, continental and curly are just some of the parsley types.
