Two Australian tradies are set to take on some international competition in a skill they know very well - bricklaying.

Site manager Ron Elliott is currently preparing to take part in the Spec Mix 500 World's Best Bricklayer competition, while his assistant Mark Roese will be looking to take out the title of best labourer in the World of Concrete Trade Show.

"I've been doing about two hours training every day for the last couple of months; building walls and corners and trying to get my speed up and make sure the walls are close to perfect," Mr Elliott told the Daily Telegraph.

"I'm not going there to muck around. I'm taking it very seriously," he added.

The 60-minute bricklaying competition will feature 21 teams, each laying as many as 900 bricks in order to construct an eight metre by 20 centimetre double-wythe wall.

Now in its tenth year, the World of Concrete display is largest annual construction trade show in the world and will be held in Las Vegas on January 25.
