Clear gutters before wet weather sets in

Wet and muggy weather along with heavy rainfall can reduce the ability of your gutters to clear away water. In some cases leading to serious structural damage and costly repair bills.

Clogged roof drainage pipes from leaves, dust and dirt can cause ceiling and wall damage to the inner and outer structure of your home. They can also become detached from roofs if overloaded, and may take down other pieces of the roof or eaves on their descent to the ground.

Basically, it is important to clean them regularly. And while it can be a difficult, dirty or awkward undertaking winter is an important season for gutters and the job they do - they need to be clear and ready for action!

Getting up to the roof will always be a safety concern, but if you have the right equipment it can be made much easier and less nail-biting.

A scissor lift can help with access if you have a high single or double-storey house - because of its bulk hiring one is your best option. Not many householders will have the space to store one of those big boys.

Make sure you have a bucket and scooping tool - chemical cleaners are also available at most hardware stores for the cleaning that requires a bit more than elbow grease.
