Looking for some interesting inspiration for a Mother's Day gift that will knock her socks off?

Here are some unique DIY choices sure to bring a smile to your mother's face.

    Birdhouse

If your mother enjoys gardening and has toiled hard by doing plenty of garden DIY, a birdhouse could be just the ticket.

This could also bring her plenty of relaxation time as some people find it very soothing to listen to the sounds of cooing birds.

If you are concerned about building a birdhouse on your own, don't worry, as it may be easier than you think to complete.

Here are some tips so you get it perfect:

    - Use a roof overhang to keep rain out of the house.

    - Only build using natural wood, as anything treated could damage birds.

    - Include ventilation holes that can reduce heat and ensure nestlings are comfortable.

    - Avoid houses with perches as this makes it even easier for predators to catch baby birds.

    Surprise coupon

Mums are busy ladies, so why not give her the gift of time? A voucher offering your services is a great way to bring joy to your mother's heart.

Why not offer to use scissors lift or a cherry picker in order to clean out the gutters? This is an often overlooked task, and no doubt your mother would be pleased to have it taken off her hands.

Similarly, the chimney may be in need of a seasonal spruce-up. Offer to do the dirty work for her and she will appreciate the gift!

    Planter boxes

Making your own garden has become increasingly popular over the past few years, so here are some top tips to help you make the best one possible so that you can really spoil your mother this May.

Plus, creating footpath planter boxes can provide your mother with a great opportunity to meet her neighbours and get some fresh air.

Try to use organic wood or natural products where possible as these have a more positive effect on the planet.

If you are planning to gift the planter box complete with plants, consider native or water-wise plants as these are also better for the environment.

Alternatively, you could provide some seed packets and let her have the fun.

    Compost

Similarly, building a compost bin for your mother is sure to wow her.

This can be placed in her back garden as a place for her to recycle her scraps and throw out any excess leaves or foliage from the garden.

The compost that results can be used as food for her garden, which could help her vegetables and flowers grow better.
