If you're looking at painting a house and doing it without the help of a professional, you'll need to remember the importance of proper ventilation for your own health and the quality of the final effect.

DIY painting is about much more than just slapping some paint on the walls.

Older homes tend to have an advantage over modern homes when it comes to ventilation, and new houses are built to be tighter, meaning that less air will travel through the house when doors and windows are closed.

Without proper ventilation while painting indoors, you could suffer from niggling or severe headaches, or even mild asthma symptoms.

As for the paint itself, it adds a significant amount of water to the environment, so excessive humidity will impede the drying process.

For proper ventilation, ensure you make a wind tunnel by opening windows and doors, and make use of any ceiling or ordinary fans you have in the home.

If you're looking at taking on a big job, such as repainting an entire home, you could look at hiring a larger fan that will help you get the job done safely and quickly.
