On a Friday afternoon not long before the weekend rush, the kitchen freezer at the Macquarie Arms Hotel in the outer Sydney suburb of Windsor broke down. Although the new owners of the Hotel had ordered a replacement, it would be more than a week before its delivery.

“We needed to urgently find a temporary replacement solution with the capacity to hold all the food ordered for weekend trading,” explained Nathan Crass, Manager of the Macquarie Arms Hotel.

“We spoke with Kennards Hire Area Manager Sean Brown who told us they had recently taken delivery of a range of new fridge / freezers.

“After discussing our needs, Sean arranged for one of the new 330 litre Fridge / Freezer units to be delivered first thing Saturday morning,” Nathan said.

Available from Kennards Hire Moorebank and Penrith with a sturdy plastic exterior the new Fridge / Freezers are available in two capacity sizes, the small 330 litre and large 916 litre unit. They are able to be used as a fridge running at 3 degrees or a freezer operating at minus 18.5 degrees. Preferred temperatures can be set on a digital panel and the units can be powered by 12V as well as 240V. The cube design allows the units to be easily loaded and transported on a Ute or in a trailer.

Built in 1815 and nestled on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, Australia’s oldest pub, Macquarie Arms Hotel in historic Windsor will be celebrating its 200th birthday in July. Steeped in history, one story tells how the upper floor was occupied by the 73rd Regiment Red Coat Soldiers, while convicts who built the Hotel by hand were chained up in the cellar. The convicts found a way to entertain themselves by smuggling barrels of illegal rum from the Hawkesbury River into the quarters below through the “Rum Smugglers Tunnels”. In their pursuit of the liquid gold, two convict brothers, Richard and Fitzpatrick, blew themselves up by wrongly mixing chemicals and as a consequence, died in the cellar.

“Kennards Hire were very responsive to our needs,” Nathan said. “Not only were we able to still operate our very popular bistro until our new freezer arrived, we also didn’t lose any produce, which could have been very costly.”
