Greenfingers it's time to get digging in with a new garden DIY project - planting new vegetables for the autumn and winter seasons!

You no longer have to brace the heat for some gardening time, with the cooler temperatures of the new season providing optimal weather to plant.

Here are some vegetables that you can add to your garden this March.

    Spinach

This iron-rich veggie is perfect to get planting in the first month of Autumn, so that you can see a flourish of dark green leaves come winter.

Spinach can tolerate the low temperatures of the cold season and will continue to grow even if it starts to become a little frosty!

    Broccoli

This nutritious veggie is a vitamin C packed superfood, also containing vitamin K, folate, vitamin A, fibre and potassium - sure to get your family filled with nutrients through the winter!

Out in the full sun is where broccoli grows best, but make sure to keep it nourished with rich compost as it is a "heavy feeder".

    Lettuce

A load of green veggies favour the cool climate and lettuce is another one among them!

This salad staple is pretty versatile and can be grown during spring as well.

The beginning of autumn is often a little dry, where salad greens thrive on moisture. It's important that you take care to keep the lettuce soil constantly moist to avoid it drying out during the day.
