Are you thinking about getting into some light demolition this weekend? Maybe hacking into a few trees and making space for your new shed? Kennards Hire has a range of saws that can make any task easier, cleaner and more efficient.

If you've got lopping trees or ripping up concrete at the top of your to-do list, read on to find out which saw is the right one for you.

    Demolition saws

For cutting up concrete, it's going to be far cheaper to hire the right tools and get stuck into the work yourself than hire a labourer for the day. You might take a bit longer to finish your garden landscaping, but at least you'll save money! Do the job over a couple of weekends and soak up the beautiful Australian sun while you're at it.

Cutting into concrete is tough work - no longer do people use a chisel and hammer to break into the surface. Now, power saws are used. Depending on your job, you'll need one of two machines, both of which come in various sizes.

The first is a petrol cut-and-break saw. This is the ideal weapon for attacking ground or piping that needs to be completely removed, as it will cut and smash its way through virtually anything. You will need to wear hand, eye, ear and mouth protection, but it'll fit right in your car. You don't need to bother that one friend with a ute just to pick it up.

For more delicate cutting jobs, you might only require a petrol demolition saw. This doesn't have a breaking mechanism on it, so offers a cleaner cut. For shaving down the length of a concrete pipe or cutting off the corner of a concrete garden frame, this is the saw for you.

    Chain saws

These are the most recognisable saws on this list, either because of horror movies, DIY shows on the television or just because most people have used one before! They're straightforward, no-nonsense tools and you'll have trees falling before your eyes.

A petrol chain saw is the best option for large jobs, as power cords won't get in your way. It's vital that before you start cutting into anything, you inspect the tool and the chain, and don't use it if it looks unsafe. At your local Kennards Hire branch, the friendly staff will make sure the tools are in great condition before you drive away anyway, but it's good for your peace of mind too.

When using a chain saw, wood chips are going to be flying all over the place. Make sure that you're wearing protective clothing, gloves, goggles, ear muffs and a mask. That way, you won't be picking wood out of your teeth before your well-earned dinner.

    Brick saws

Don't bother bringing the bricks to the saw - that's far too much work.

If you're altering the shape of bricks around your property, whether it's for landscaping, to make a wall installation easier or to simply cut a block to fit into a space more easily, you'll need a specific brick and block saw.

The 350-millimetre petrol brick saw is a fantastic, versatile tool. You can wheel it around your yard to exactly where it needs to be. Don't bother bringing the bricks to the saw - that's far too much work.

If portability isn't top of your list, then the 350-millimetre electric dustless brick saw might be more up your alley. This has a catchment area for the dust that flies off bricks and blocks when they're sawed, so cleaning up your garage or backyard isn't going to take nearly as long! It's also safer if you have pets or kids around (hopefully not too close!) because they won't be breathing in any of the particles.

Saws are a versatile and important part of many DIY projects - do you know which one is best for you? Contact Kennards Hire for more information.
