Spring is just around the corner, and with the warmer weather comes increased motivation and energy levels.

So what better way to put your newfound enthusiasm to use than by challenging yourself to a bit of DIY work around the home?

For a kitchen project that won't break the bank, why not repaint the cupboards? This inexpensive DIY project can instantly brighten up a room, making it more inviting.

Kitchens are traditionally bright, airy rooms, so to achieve this look stick with light, sunny colours - think pale yellows, crisp white, smooth cream or baby blue.

Once you have settled on your colour scheme, head down to your local Kennards Hire to get the right equipment for the task - electric drills, ladders and trestles, sandpaper and a drop sheet.

To get started you will need to remove all the cupboards and hinges - filling any unwanted cracks with a suitable filler to ensure you have a smooth surface to work on.

Lightly sanding the doors on either side is essential before painting, make sure you use a finer grade for this.

Once you have painted the cupboards - one coat of primer and two coats of paint is recommended - you can rehang the doors and then screw the hinges back on tightly.
