Planting fruit trees this summer

Any experienced green-thumb will know that spring is the perfect time to embark upon a garden landscaping project, as it's the ideal time of year to begin growing flowers, vegies, herbs and shrubs.

For something different, why not plant some fruit trees in your backyard this spring? These can not only save you money in your weekly shop, but they will also provide beautiful flowers, shade and character to your property.

Now is ideal to plant citrus trees, including orange, mandarin, lime and orange. There are so many different varieties on the market, including smaller dwarf versions for those who have limited space.

Weather conditions are also perfect for deciduous fruit trees such as peach, nectarine, plum, apricot, fig, pear and apple - depending on when you decide to start planting, you may need to buy a potted tree that is flowering already.

As with any plant, it is vital that you take into consideration its suitability in your garden and its requirements. As a rule, all fruit trees love a lot of sun exposure, as well as a good drainage system and plenty of room to grow!
