Signs you may need to fix up your front garden

Your front garden is the first thing people see when they visit your house, so it's important to ensure it looks pretty darn good most of the time. If the presentation of your garden has seen better days, then perhaps it's time to give it a little makeover.

Here, we have a few signs that your front garden needs a spruce up and how you can do it.

You can't remember the last time you had a good old barbecue with your mates.

If the only entertainment area you have is a front porch that holds one person, standing, it might be time to build a deck. Sitting out the front of your house, watching the world go by with a beer in one hand and a steak sammie in the other is something we believe all Aussies should experience. Imagine how good it will feel to relax on a deck you built with your own two hands!

Once you've worked out which permits you need, grab yourself a nail gun, some planks of wood and some instructions from the professionals and put together something that you'll reap rewards from year after year.

Your neighbours have begun complaining that your trees are leaning over and breaking their fence - and beginning to grow into their garden.

It's time to chop down that tree that has taken more control of your garden than you have. Just chop it down and start again. Your neighbours will appreciate getting some sunlight back in their garden, and you will too - plus, it makes for extra room for you to stick the barbecue when you aren't using it.

Your pets haven't frolicked in the front garden in two years, due to the clutter of bikes, cars with no warrant and overgrown bushes.

The kids have gone off to uni, and the bikes they learned to ride on at age four probably aren't going to be of use to them anymore. Chuck them out, sell off the doer-upper you've had sitting in the front garden since ages ago and chop down the bushes that are wreaking havoc across your front porch. Clear the way for a garden that you can actually use and that the dog can have a good run around. Check out this DIY guide for getting your lawn in tip top condition, once you've got rid of everything.
