Despite a national drop in the last financial year, recent data has revealed that car theft is still a prevalent problem with the issue worsening in some states.

While the number of vehicles stolen in Australia dropped by three per cent in the 2010-11 year, both Queensland and Western Australia have experienced a rise in the problem recently.

Latest figures from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council revealed that in the March 2012 quarter there was a 16 per cent surge in passenger vehicle and motorcycle thefts across Western Australia.

For tradies, the latest figures may be worrying as theft of a utility vehicle can often mean the loss of valuable tools that are integral to their livelihood.

The recent data, which is likely to have an effect on insurance premiums in certain areas across the country, may encourage tradies to heighten security measures to minimise the risk of theft.

This may include installing an alarm system on a vehicle, storing tools in alternative areas, investing in securing parking or hiring tools on a need-by-need basis.

Theft is virtually unpreventable in most cases and tradies concerned about the rising trend in some areas may find it beneficial and more convenient to hire tools from a specialised centre like Kennards Hire.

This can alleviate the stress associated with theft and also save you thousands of dollars on purchasing specialised equipment that you may only use for one-off jobs.
