While skid steer loaders may be considered the 'Jack of all trades' for earthmoving work, backhoe loaders could be called the absolute machine, with the heavy piece of machinery acting as a loader, tractor and backhoe all in one.

A loader is attached at the front and a backhoe on the rear, with the loader helping to scoop up and carry large amounts of material, to push dirt like a plow or 'smooth things over'.

The backhoe attachment on the other hand is used to dig up hard earth and lift heavy loads.

A backhoe loader is commonly used to dig ditches, with the backhoe used for the digging and then the loader attachment moving the dirt away or back-filling the ditch once the power lines or pipes are placed.

Kennards has a backhoe loader (only available in South Australia) that is ideal for rail-related construction projects and comes fitted with ROPS cab, air conditioning, servo controls, torque lock, suspension seat, reversing alarm and a smooth ride system.

You can also pick up other earthmoving equipment from your local hire centre including diggers, trenchers, excavators and mini loaders.
