What’s included in the rate?
We’ve never wanted to be the biggest hire company, just the best! We believe in no hidden extras and a fair dinkum approach to pricing. Where there are optional items or additional charges we’ll make sure these are well understood before you hire. It's these additional services that set us apart and are why our customers continue to hire from us – and why you should too!

I'm having trouble accessing the website
If you want to access our website, then you’ll need to be using the right browser to view it correctly. Try updating Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge to the latest versions to access it.
Once you’re on the right browser it should display correctly, but let us know if you’re still running into problems.
Why do I have to select a branch?
Selecting a branch shows you the relevant equipment for your area, the relevant rates and the correct delivery information. After all, you don’t want to be shown a mini-loader halfway across the state when you need a jack hammer locally!
I'm having trouble signing in
You must sign in to be able to view your account details and manage your hires.
If you receive a message that says your email address/password is incorrect, follow the steps below:
- Make sure you are using the same email address and password you registered with.
- If you can’t remember your password click on the ‘forgotten password’ link on the sign in page. You’ll be prompted to enter your email address and we’ll send you an email with a link that will allow you to create a new password for your account.
- If after this you still can’t sign in, get in touch with us giving as much detail as you can about the issue including screen shots of any error message you get and what you’ve done so far to try to resolve it.
I can't sign up
You need a valid email address to sign up for our website. Your password may also not meet the minimum requirements. It has to be six characters or more, and we reckon it’s a good idea to throw a number in for extra security!
How to determine what size generator I need?
You need to determine the peak Watts (this is the “Approx. starting wattage” on Wattage estimation table below) or Amps needed for each appliance or tool that will be plugged in to the generator. All electrical equipment will have a compliance label (usually fixed to the electrical item) or information in the owner’s manual relating to the Watts or Amps required. Add up the total Watts of all the electrical items and then ensure you choose a generator that has a higher power rating than you require.IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Some electrical items like air compressors, airless sprayers or concrete grinders can require up to three times the amount of stated power on startup and this needs to be taken into consideration when determining Watts required.
- Inverter Generators are recommended for sensitive electrical equipment like computers, stereos, TV’s, phones etc. The clean, stable power produced by Inverter Generators won’t damage your sensitive electronic devices - giving you added peace of mind.
Use the below formulas to then determine the kVA size of the generator you require.
- 1 Amp @ 240V = 240 Watts
- 1kW (Kilo Watt) = 1000 Watts
- 0.8 kW = 1 kVA
Domestic Appliance | Approx. Running Wattage | Approx. Starting Wattage |

How to determine the towing capacity of your vehicle?
In order to tow safely and legally, you must tow within your car's towing capacity, which is the maximum amount of weight your vehicle is able to tow as recommended by the manufacturer. Your vehicle’s towing capacity must be greater or equal to the Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) (combined weight of the trailer and its full load capacity when it’s not coupled to a tow vehicle). There are three main items you need to check to determine your vehicles tow capacity.
- Vehicles maximum tow capacity as recommended by the manufacturer. Your vehicle's towing capacity figures should be listed in the owner's manual and they should also be easily tracked down within vehicle specification sheets or sourced from a vehicle manufacturer's website. This is listed as two separate figures, braked or unbraked towing (vehicle maximum tow capacity) which refers to tow capacity of the vehicle when towing trailers with or without brakes.
- The maximum capacity of the tow bar fitted to the frame your vehicle which can usually be found on the tow bar compliance plate.
- The tow ball rating which is stamped on the tow ball.
Your towing capacity is limited to the lowest rated towing related part. For example if you manufacturer rates your car to 3000kg, the tow bar is rated to 2000kg and your tow ball is rated to 3500 kg, then your towing capacity is 2000kg as per the tow bar weight capacity.
This information is intended as a guide only as there are other factors that can affect your towing capacity including:
- Load of the tow vehicle (passengers, luggage etc). The vehicle-and-trailer combination always has to weigh within the Gross Combined Mass (GCM) limit that is the maximum your vehicle-and-trailer combination can legally weigh. The GCM can be found in your owners manual or from the manufacturer.
- Load positioning to ensure the load is distributed in a way that will keep the towing vehicle stable and safe to drive.
- Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) (combined weight of the trailer and its full load when it’s not coupled to a tow vehicle). This can be found on the Kennards Hire equipment page under the specifications tab by adding the trailer weight and load capacity.
- Ball load (how much weight a trailer imposes on your tow ball when it is hitched to your vehicle and the jockey wheel is not taking any weight). Ball load is 10% of the Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM).
- Gross Trailer Mass (GTM) is the weight of a fully loaded trailer imposed on the trailer’s axle when coupled to the tow vehicle.
- In New Zealand every light vehicle and trailer combination must be capable of stopping within a distance of seven metres from a speed of 30km/h. In effect, this means that the maximum allowable weight of an unbraked trailer is limited by the weight and braking ability of the vehicle being used to tow it.
